Working in Recruitment: Meet Andrew

We spoke to Senior Recruitment Consultant Andrew Midgley about his role…

Hi Andrew! How long have you worked for Henry Nicholas and what is your career background?

I’ve worked here since 2012, so it’s been 10 and a half years now!

Having worked in banks during and after university, I moved into recruitment in 2011 – initially with Michael Page, a big high-pressure recruitment consultancy, before joining Henry Nicholas. I really like that the work is more specialised here at Henry Nicholas, as it gives you more time to get to know your clients and candidates and deliver a great service.

What do you enjoy about working in the role of recruitment and what is the culture like at HN?

I get paid to chat to people – as a people person, that’s pretty great! We’ve got a really close-knit team here, which makes the job even better. It’s great knowing that we can rely on each other for support, as well as having a laugh. The culture at Henry Nicholas is fairly relaxed – it’s definitely a fun place to work.

 

What does your typical day look like?

I spend most of my day chatting to clients and candidates, and piecing the jigsaw together to fit the right people with the right roles. No two days are the same, and I love it that way.

 

Do you have a favourite memory to share?

We went on a brilliant team ski trip to Bulgaria one year, which made for plenty of great memories – a favourite being when our MD John was showing off his ski skills, and promptly skied face-first into a huge snowdrift… leaving a pair of legs and skis poking out of the top like a cartoon!

What are you looking forward to achieving this year?

I’m really looking forward to growing my team and helping them to become confident and established recruiters, as well as watching the rest of the business grow at the same time.
